Mutated eggs are the only way to obtain certain Pal variants in Palworld 1.0. They look different from standard eggs, require the Mutation Elixir to enable, and have a longer incubation time. What Makes an Egg “Mutated”?
A mutated egg is visibly distinct from a regular egg. Instead of the standard solid color, mutated eggs have a shimmering aura effect and a secondary color swirling across the shell. The color combination hints at the element shift — for example, a blue egg with orange swirls may contain a Fire variant of a Water Pal.

Step-by-Step: Getting Your First Mutated Egg
1. Unlock the Tech
- Reach Player Level 45
- Spend 5 Ancient Technology Points on the Mutation Research node (Ancient Tech tree, third page)
- This unlocks the Mutation Elixir recipe and the Mutation tab on the Monitoring Stand
2. Gather Materials for Mutation Elixir
Each Mutation Elixir requires:
- 5 Paldium Fragment — Mined from ore deposits, abundant
- 3 Life Crystal — Alpha Pal drops; farm from Dungeon Bosses and Tower Boss reruns
- 1 Ancient Civilization Part — Tower Boss rewards and dungeon chests
- 5 Hexolite Quartz — Only found in Sunreach Sky Islands; you must reach the new 1.0 area

3. Craft the Elixir
- Craft at a High Quality Workbench (unlocked at Level 30)
- Production time: 30 seconds per Elixir
- Craft 3-5 Elixirs at once so you don’t have to stop mid-loop
4. Apply to a Breeding Pair
- Place a male and female Pal in a Breeding Farm
- Interact with the Monitoring Stand near the farm
- Open the new Mutation tab (only visible if you’ve unlocked the tech)
- Select “Apply Mutation Elixir” and choose the active pair
- The Elixir lasts for 3 egg cycles — you’ll see a purple timer icon above the Breeding Farm
5. Wait for Eggs
The pair produces eggs on the normal schedule. Most will be standard eggs, but approximately 2-16% (depending on your setup) will be mutated. Mutated eggs appear with the shimmering visual effect as soon as they’re laid.
6. Incubate
Mutated eggs take 50% longer to incubate than their size would suggest. A Large Mutated egg takes about 18 minutes in the incubator (vs. 12 for a standard Large). You can still use heaters or coolers to speed this up, and the passive incubation bonuses from your base also apply.
How to Increase Your Mutated Egg Rate
The base mutation chance is low, but you can stack several improvements:

The result depends on the parents’ elements. Here are the most common mutation outcomes for the effort:
- Same-species variant (common): Stat-boosted color variant of one parent. Good for combat Pals.
- Element shift (uncommon): The child inherits one parent’s body and the other parent’s element. Example: a Water Pal with Fire element.
- Exclusive mutation form (rare): A Pal that cannot be caught in the wild. These have their own Paldex entries.

Can I see mutated eggs in the world (wild)?
No. Mutated eggs only appear through the breeding + Elixir system. There are no wild mutated eggs to find.
Can I stack Mutation Elixirs?
No. Applying a second Elixir while one is active refreshes the duration back to 3 cycles but does not increase the mutation rate further.
Does egg size affect mutation outcomes?
Yes. Huge Mutated eggs have a better chance of producing rare mutation forms, while Regular-sized mutated eggs tend to produce color variants.
If I don’t use an Elixir, can mutation still happen naturally?
No. Mutation Elixir is required. Without it, you get standard breeding results 100% of the time — even with max IVs and condensed parents.
