Palworld Type Chart — All Element Strengths & Weaknesses

The Palworld type chart decides your damage in every fight. Attacks against an element they are strong against deal 2× damage; attacks against an element they are weak against deal 0.5× damage. Matching your Pal’s skills to the enemy’s weakness is the single biggest damage boost available, so memorize this chart (or bookmark this page).

Element Matchup Rules

Damage Multipliers

  • Strong against: 2× damage
  • Weak against: 0.5× damage
  • No matchup: 1× damage (unchanged, even if the skill matches the target’s element)

STAB Bonus (Same Type Attack Bonus)

When a Pal uses an Active Skill that matches one of its own elements, the skill deals an extra +20% damage. This stacks with type effectiveness, so a Fire Pal using a Fire skill on a Grass enemy hits especially hard.

Dual-Element Pals

Pals with two elements inherit the strengths and weaknesses of both. Matchups apply independently and stack: if one element is strong and the other is weak against the same attack, the damage is neutral (1×). With the current type chart, 0.25× (double resist) cannot occur, and 4× (double weakness) does not occur either — the chart never has two elements weak to the same element.

Fire is Special

Fire is the only element strong against two different types (Grass and Ice), which makes Fire Pals the most flexible attackers. It pays off in its single weakness to Water.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the damage multiplier for super-effective attacks in Palworld?

Attacks strong against the target’s element deal 2× damage, and attacks weak against it deal 0.5× damage. Type effectiveness is based on the attack’s element, not your character’s weapon.

Does a Pal resist its own element?

No. Same-element attacks are neutral (1×) in Palworld. The only damage modifiers are type matchups (2× / 0.5×) and the +20% STAB bonus for matching the attacker’s own element.

What is the STAB bonus in Palworld?

Pals using skills that match their own element get a +20% damage bonus. This is separate from type effectiveness, so it applies even when the matchup is neutral.

Which element is the best in Palworld?

Fire is generally considered the most flexible attacking element — it is strong against two types (Grass and Ice) and only weak to Water. Neutral Pals are the safest generalists (only weak to Dark). For defense, Dark and Dragon resistances are the most useful in endgame content.

Can a dual-type Pal take 4× or 0.25× damage?

Not with the current type chart. No element is weak to two of the same matchup patterns, so double weakness (4×) and double resistance (0.25×) cannot occur. When a dual-type Pal is hit by an attack strong against one type but weak against the other, the damage is neutral.
