Direhowl is the fastest early-game ground mount in Palworld 1.0 — it’s faster than any other Pal you can ride before level 20, making it the go-to travel Pal for the first few hours. This guide covers everything about Direhowl.

How to Get Direhowl
Direhowl spawns in open plains across the central map. It’s level 10-20 and very easy to catch.
- Weakness: Dark-type (neutral weakness)
- Recommended level: 10+ with normal or Mega Spheres
- Best spot: The plateau near the starting area — packs of 2-3 spawn
- Loot: Leather, Bones, Raw Meat
Direhowl — The Speed King of Early Game
Direhowl’s saddle unlocks at Technology Level 12 — one of the earliest mounts in the game. Its sprint speed at base is significantly faster than any other mount available at that level:
- ~20% faster than Eikthyrdeer
- ~35% faster than Melpaca
- Comparable to Rushoar but with better handling
If you breed for Swift + Runner passives, Direhowl remains competitive with mid-game mounts.
Combat
Direhowl’s Partner Skill Howling Dash delivers a quick lunge attack. It’s useful for finishing off weakened Pals but not a primary fighter.
Breeding
With breeding power 370, Direhowl is useful in early breeding chains for Neutral-type offspring. It’s also a parent in several mid-game combos.
Summary
- Best for: Fastest early ground mount (Tech 12), exploration
- Get it by: Catching on the starting plateau — abundant spawns
- Ideal passives: Swift > Runner > Nimble
- Key tip: Catch a Direhowl in your first hour of play — it transforms early-game travel more than any other Pal
