Awakening and Mutation are late-account systems. Get food, spheres, and a stable breeding loop first. Then these systems stop feeling like busywork and start feeling like upgrades.
Mindset shift from Early Access grinding
In shorter progression curves, almost any strong Pal was disposable. In 1.0’s longer endgame, your best workers and boss killers may stay relevant for dozens of hours. That makes:
- Breeding passives more valuable
- Species selection more intentional
- “Temporary” mid-game junk less worth expensive upgrades
Investment order (recommended)
- Identify the Pal’s job (base Handiwork god, Tower breaker, travel mount, etc.).
- Lock the genetic floor via breeding/catching passives you can live with.
- Level and gear the account around that Pal so the investment is usable now.
- Spend Awakening/Mutation resources only after the Pal survives a “would I rebuild this?” test.
What to invest in first
| Pal role | Invest early? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Irreplaceable high-rank base crafter | Yes | Multiplies every future craft minute |
| Current best boss DPS species | Yes, if passives are good | Opens endgame gates faster |
| Cute temporary mount | No | Travel upgrades happen often |
| Duplicate almost-good breed rejects | No | Resource sink with no identity |
Breeding synergy
Awakening/Mutation does not replace breeding—it amplifies it. A mediocre passive shell remains mediocre when upgraded. Finish the gene project first, then invest.
Resource discipline
- Track sinks in a dedicated chest/label system.
- Avoid “equal upgrades for everyone” socialism—your account has protagonists.
- Re-evaluate after major patches; balance can shift preferred species.
