Flying changes how you play the map. Unlock a flyer when travel is the bottleneck—not the same week you are still fixing berry farms.
What “flying” means in Palworld
Flight comes from a Pal Partner Skill (or mount skill) that lets you ride a flying-capable species. There is no separate “unlock flight” menu button—you catch or breed a flyer, then ride it.
- Land mount first if you are still walking everywhere. Flight is better, but any mount beats foot travel.
- Flyer second once you can reach safer high ground / mid-game biomes without dying on every commute.
- Endgame flyer when stamina, combat readiness, and catch tools catch up to legendary/high-tier targets.
How to get your first flying mount
- Stabilize your base loop (food, spheres, beds). Flying targets are usually farther and meaner than early land mounts.
- Raise sphere tier + combat levels so you can pressure HP without wasting Ultra-tier stock on a first attempt.
- Scout a flying-capable Pal in a biome you can actually survive. Mark the spawn, clear adds, then commit.
- Catch → assign as ride → practice stamina before using it as your only commute tool.
If you keep wiping on the catch, drop down a sphere tier goal and bring status effects / better DPS—not more hope.
Flight progression ladder
| Stage | Goal | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Early | Reliable land mount | Shortens ore and tower approaches immediately |
| Early–mid | First usable flyer | Cuts cliff/terrain tax; better scouting |
| Mid | Faster / safer flyer | Supports Sunreach-style vertical routes and long farm loops |
| Late | High-end travel legendaries | Luxury speed + combat safety for endgame errands |
Stamina and combat habits that keep you alive
- Never empty the bar over lethal drops. Glide/land early when stamina is low.
- Carry cooked food for player + Pal after long flights.
- Recall before a crash fight if your flyer is glass. A dead travel Pal strands you.
- Use flight for scouting, not ego boss pulls. Land and fight on your terms.
When flight becomes “mandatory”
You can finish a lot of early Towers without a flyer. Flight becomes a real quality-of-life spike when:
- Your map diameter jumps (new islands / highland routes)
- Resource nodes sit behind cliffs more often than roads
- You start chaining Sanctuaries, oil, or vertical 1.0 zones
If your base still cannot print spheres, fix that before a legendary flyer hunt.
