Paladius and Necromus are the legendary duo of the Desiccated Desert. They spawn together, fight together, and together they unlock the breeding combination for Jetragon. This guide covers everything: location, dual-fight strategy, catch sequence, and post-catch use.
Location
Both Pals spawn at the same location in the Desiccated Desert, far northern side of the map.
- Coordinates: (447, 679)
- Nearest fast travel: Deep Sand Dunes
- Terrain: Open desert arena with some rock formations for cover
The area experiences extreme heat during the day and cold at night. Bring appropriate gear or time your visit carefully.
Fight Mechanics
Paladius and Necromus always spawn together and share an aggro table. Attacking one aggros both. They have approximately 80,000 combined HP and both are level 50.
| Pal | Element | Weak to | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paladius | Neutral | Dark | Defensive (higher DEF, lower ATK) |
| Necromus | Dark | Dragon | Offensive (higher ATK, lower DEF) |
Synergy bonus: When both are alive simultaneously, they gain +15% DEF for each other. This makes killing them one at a time much easier than fighting both at once — which is exactly the strategy you should use.
Best Team
| Slot | Pal | Role | Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Shadowbeak or Necromus (if you have one) | Dark DPS | Paladius |
| 2 | Jetragon or Xenolord | Dragon DPS | Necromus |
| 3 | Anubis | Ground support | Neutral coverage |
| 4-5 | High level combat Pals | Rotation | Backup |
Step-by-Step Strategy
Option 1: Fight at Night (Recommended)
Both Paladius and Necromus sleep at night. Approach while they are sleeping — you can engage Necromus first without aggroing Paladius. This turns the duo fight into a 1v1 fight twice.
- Wait for nighttime in-game
- Approach slowly and identify which Pal is sleeping closer to you
- Attack Necromus first (it has higher damage output)
- Once Necromus is down, engage Paladius solo
Option 2: Fight Both (Need the Challenge)
- Open with a Rocket Launcher aimed between both Pals to hit them together
- Deploy Dragon-type Pals for Necromus damage
- Maneuver the fight away from cliffs to prevent falling deaths (no loot if they fall)
- Focus Necromus first — removing its high DPS makes the second half much easier
- Use the arena’s rock formations for line-of-sight cover against ranged attacks
Rewards
| Drop | Paladius | Necromus |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient Civilization Parts | 2-3 | 2-3 |
| Paldium Fragment | 5-8 | 5-8 |
| Unique drop | Paladius Horn | Necromus Mane |
| Passive skill | Celestial Emperor (+20% Neutral) | Lord of the Underworld (+20% Dark) |
Breeding Value
The most important reason to catch Paladius and Necromus: Paladius + Necromus = Jetragon egg. This is the only guaranteed way to obtain a Jetragon without fighting the level 70 boss in Sunreach. Breed them in a Breeding Farm with Cake, and the first egg will hatch into Jetragon.
Mount Benefits
- Necromus: Fastest ground mount in the game with double-jump capability
- Paladius: Nearly as fast as Necromus with higher defense
Both are excellent for exploring areas where flying mounts are impractical (caves, dense forests).
FAQ
Can I catch only one without the other?
No. They share an aggro table — engaging one engages both. Use the night-time strategy to isolate them.
Do they respawn?
Yes. Both have a 1-hour respawn timer (real-time).
Which should I catch first?
Strategically, Necromus is more valuable (faster ground mount, key for Jetragon breeding). Practically, catch whichever is easier for you to handle first.
